JUNE SPOTLIGHT FROM THE PRESIDENT

Updated: May 30, 2020

According to Astrology, if you were born in the month of June, you are often referred as a Cancer. Your birth flower is a rose, and it’s pleasing to wear a string of pearls around your neck. June is also considered the “good luck” month to be married. Our dads/ fathers are another reason to love the month of June. Sometimes I think they get a bit short changed, so Hooyah for all the great Dad’s out there!

The longest day of the year falls on June 21st bringing warmer temperatures and extra sunlight.

If you are a gardener, you may be thinking of “pollinator week” (June 22-23). It’s a time to celebrate pollinators and spread the word about how important they are and how we can protect them. Perhaps you can plan something special in your garden to educate or create a pollinator project.

Lots of wonderful things to celebrate and do in the month of June.

June Gardening To-Do-List:

Monitor potential June bug damage

Deadhead your spring bulbs to prevent them from wasting energy on producing seed. Also, fertilize them. But wait till the leaves are yellow before trimming them.

Design a special garden gift for dad/father

Create a pollinator project in your garden

Plant and place hanging baskets/pots

Purchase a new garden ornament, feeder or birdhouse

Finish sowing seed for annuals outside

Check plants daily and water when dry

Keep on top of weeding

Due to the pandemic, it is with sincere regret that Chair member Kathy and Caro Garden Club Board decided to cancel the 90th Anniversary Celebration scheduled for July 2020, and reschedule it for July 17, 2021.

A big thank you to all who helped clean up and plant our gardens. They are beautiful this year! Let’s continue to keep them up and stop in and do some weeding/deadheading throughout the summer!

Our June 24th, 2020 Installation of New Officers meeting will be held at Melody Crossett Jones home; 4182 Pringle Rd. Snover, Mi at 12:00 noon, outdoors weather permitting. If you are unable to attend, please contact Diana B. or Melody C. so that the host and lunch committee can plan accordingly.Directions from Caro: Take Deckerville Rd. (east) toward Deford, cross over M-53 (Van Dyke Rd.) Drive 4 miles, turn left on Germania Rd., (there will be a sign that says Petroglyphs), drive north 4 miles to Pringle Rd.
